Hello - my name is Charles  Patrick Goodmurphy.

I have always been interested in the origins of my family name and have heard several  stories over the years from various family members about the Goodmurphys.

In 1985 I contacted the Ontario Genealogical Society and received some material  indicating possible sources of information on family history and general information  on membership to the Society.  I regret that at that  time I did not pursue  membership or initiate any research.

In October 1989 a cousin of my father's passed away at the ripe old age of 101. Bernice Cleave, wife of Percy Cleave, was the daughter of Gilbert Lawrence  Goodmurphy, who was a son of Solomon, who was a son of Laurence, who was a son of  John Good Murphy and Deborah Davis.
 John was the first of the Goodmurphys to emigrate to Canada in 1822 and he brought  all of his children except the oldest, William.  Anyway, I recall visiting Bernice sometime around 1975 and she had many stories about  the Goodmurphy family and had a box full of material,letters, etc. I had intended at that time to visit her again to copy some of the information but,  alas the years flew by and now she has passed on.  Fortunately, a relative of  Bernice's (Donna Vader) acquired most of the personal effects and gave  my parents anything she found on the Goodmurphy family.  One item we acquired is  a letter written by Mrs. Eliza Cooper at the age of 82, which I estimate to be  written in 1931. 
 Eliza was the youngest daughter of Lawrence Goodmurphy, and Eliza makes reference to  all of Lawrence's brothers and sisters and their children. Some of the information  doesn't match to Census Records, e.g.  Lawrence's birthdate according to Eliza was  1791 but the Census Records put it at 1805 or thereabouts.

I originally started putting everything into MS Word, and my plan was to eventually  publish a family genealogy. I have also put most of my information into Family Tree  Maker, and I uploaded the family tree file into this website. Over the past 35 years I have worked with many family members and other contacts and  my family genealogy is still a work in progress.

I can't guarantee accuracy of information, so I always welcome feedback.
